The events and travel organization company “OPEN WAYS IKE”, welcomes you and your association to the “1st Folklore Festival”, as part of the “Fisherman’s Feast”, which will take place from September 20 to 22, 2024, on the island of Ammouliani. The festival is organized by our company in collaboration with the Ammouliani Development Association, the Ammouliani Cultural Association, Aristotle’s Paths Travel Agency, and other local bodies, with high-quality organizational standards and great respect for tradition and culture.
Ammouliani is the only inhabited island of Halkidiki (120 km from Thessaloniki), located in the Gulf of Mount Athos, somewhere between the second and third “legs”, just 2 nautical miles from Trypiti. It is a small earthly paradise with sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
Ammouliani is inextricably linked with the Athonite tradition. In the past, the island was a dependency (metochion) of the Vatopedi Monastery of Mount Athos, inhabited by monks who managed its property. In early 1925, the island was granted to refugees from Asia Minor, specifically from the islands of Propontis (Gallimi – Pasalimani – Skoupia). The refugees, originating from these areas, brought with them the Asia Minor culture, their customs, and traditions. Today, the island administratively belongs to the Municipality of Aristotle and has a population of 600 inhabitants, whose main occupations are fishing and tourism. The island’s inhabitants, proud of their cultural heritage even today, preserve memories and tastes of the past, thus offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the island’s history and tradition. A hallmark of the island’s gastronomy is Amygdalota, which the women of the island shape into flowers, impressing with both their taste and their elaborate appearance. It is an ideal tourist destination with archaeological, cultural, religious, and environmental interest.
