The event and travel organization company “OPENWAYS IKE” welcomes you and your association to the “8th International Folk Festival”, named “FOLKWAY“, which will take place from June 29 to July 3, 2023, in municipal districts of the Municipality of Katerini. It is the only international folk festival in the region organized by the company and is under the auspices of the Municipality of Katerini and the Regional Unit of Pieria, in cooperation with local associations, with high-quality organizational standards and great respect for tradition and culture.

The festival will take place in Pieria, in the historical land of the ancient Thracian tribe “Pieres” and the Muses, on the foothills of the famous Mount Olympus. The surrounding area is the mythical dwelling place of the ancient Greek Gods, next to the beautiful coasts of the Aegean Sea – Olympic Riviera. The pleasant Mediterranean climate and the hospitality of the locals guarantee an unforgettable stay in our municipality. All these elements combine to create an ideal tourist destination, with archaeological, cultural, and environmental interest.

All our previous festivals in North, Central, and South Pieria were successful, due to the large participation of artistic groups from all over the world. We anticipate that the 20th International Festival in the wider region and the 8th in Central Pieria will be even more successful and will provide participants with opportunities to get to know different cultures and people, create new friendships, and exchange experiences. Furthermore, it is an opportunity, during their stay, to enjoy local Greek hospitality, the crystal-clear waters of the sea, and the bright sun.

 

Schedule

29/6/2023

  • Arrival Day – Check in at the hotel after 2:00 PM. Free time for activities such as swimming, shopping, strolling, and entertainment.
  • Meeting with a representative of the organizers; a detailed program will be provided, and a dedicated contact person/escort will always be available to each group.
  • Dinner.
  • Any outstanding balance must be paid on that day.

30/6/2023

  • Breakfast. Free day, from morning until evening, for rest and activities.
  • Optional excursion: visit to local wineries for a tasting accompanied by local traditional delicacies.
  • 8:30 PM: A welcome feast with Greek and European music, traditional dances, and gifts will be organized free of charge for all participants by the company “OPEN WAYS”. Dinner with local food and drinks will be provided at the feast.

1/7/2023

  • Breakfast. Free time.
  • Optional organization of a meeting for groups/associations, upon their request, for acquaintance, exchange of views, and learning about traditions and culture – Optional excursion to the area’s attractions.
  • Lunch.
  • 7:00 PM: Transfer from the hotel to the festival venue (central square of Paralia Katerinis). Dressed in traditional costumes. Before the performance, commemorative gifts will be presented to all groups by the Municipality of Katerini. During the performance, water and sandwiches will be offered.

2/7/2023

  • Breakfast. Meeting of group leaders with the organizers (coffee, local delicacies, exchange of gifts, discussion)
  • Optional excursion (Cruise along the beautiful coasts of Pieria).
  • Lunch.
  • 7:00 PM: Transfer from the hotel to the festival venue (central square of Olympiaki Akti). Dressed in traditional costumes. Before the performance, commemorative gifts will be presented to all groups by the Municipality of Katerini. During the performance, water and sandwiches will be offered.

3/7/2023 (extra day)

  • Breakfast.
  • Free day – Optional excursion, organized by our office to notable and interesting sites/areas of Pieria.
  • Dinner.

3-4/7/2023

  • Breakfast – Departure.

Safe organization/accommodation

If restrictions due to the pandemic are still in effect by the time the festival takes place, all safe organization rules will be observed, with all necessary measures, adhering to all health protocols valid at that time.

We must also emphasize that all collaborating hotels, located within the Municipality of Katerini, will operate based on the strict rules and health protocols for the prevention of Covid19 that will be in force at that time.

Special notes

  • Individual certificates of participation will be provided.
  • Official invitation and other required documentation.
  • The organizers reserve the right to modify the program, if necessary, with prior timely notification.
  • Offers for transfers and optional excursions can be provided upon request to the organizers.

Optional excursions

  • Hiking on Mount Olympus.
  • Cruise along the beautiful coasts of South Pieria.
  • Thessaloniki.
  • Local Wineries and other producers.
  • Meteora (Monasteries).
  • Archaeological sites: Dion and Vergina.
  • Traditional Greek villages/notable sites of Pieria.
Participation Cost – Accommodation

  • Participation: €30 per person (Accommodation not included)

  • Full package, participation and accommodation:
    150 € per person in 1* and 2* hotels.
    188 € per person in 3* hotels.
    285 € per person in 4* hotels.

The full package includes:

  • Accommodation for 5 days (4 nights), with half board (breakfast and dinner), in triple rooms in seaside hotels in Pieria, in Paralia Katerinis, Olympiaki Akti, and Paralia Korinou.
  • Participation in the Festival.
  • Participation in the traditional Greek feast and in lessons of local Greek and foreign traditional dances exclusively for participants.
  • Local delicacies and water will be offered during the performances.
  • Meeting of group leaders/representatives (coffee, gifts, discussion).
  • Certificates of participation, commemorative gifts, photos, video.
  • One free participant for every 25.

The participation cost DOES NOT include:

  • Extra nights, the cost of which is:
  • €36 per person, per day in 1*-2* hotels (half board in triple rooms).
  • €45 per person, per day in 3* hotels.
  • €65 per person, per day in 4* hotels
  • Accommodation for more or fewer days is also available.
  • Accommodation in double rooms, subject to availability, will cost an extra €6 to €9 per person, per day, depending on the accommodation.
  • Optional excursions: Prices are determined by the number of participants. A special list of daily excursions will be sent to you one month prior to your arrival.
  • First aid and support will be provided for any emergency, but medical services are covered by the group. The safety of participants is their personal responsibility. It is recommended that groups arrange their medical insurance coverage before departing from their countries.
